DIRECTOR
Eddy an Associate of Risk Management, Institute of Insurance America and an Associate of the Australian Insurance Institute is probably one of the very few insurance practitioners in Malaysia with experience as an underwriter, loss adjuster, broker, agent, risk manager, third party administrator, insurance trainer as well as underwriting and insurance manager.
Commenced his career in insurance some twenty years ago as an underwriter and was involved in product development. In 1982 he joined a leading international loss adjusting practice gaining invaluable experience in policy interpretation and claims negotiation adjustment and settlement.
From 1990 to 1997 he was the senior manager of one of Malaysia largest brokerage handling numerous insurance packages for manufacturers, service based and financial institutions as well as mainstream brokerage including the marketing placement and servicing of a very diversified portfolio from the simplest of personal lines, niche products to large public listed and multi-national companies for both operational and construction risks. He also headed an international desk in respect of Malaysians investing overseas.
Subsequent to his tenure as a broker he was appointed as the chief executive officer of a foreign-based company involved in risk and insurance management. He was also a director in a company within the Group involved in the alternative distribution of life products at the worksite and together with the American partners was involved in driving the worksite marketing, enrolment and reinsurance initiatives .
MAAROF OMAR - Diploma MII
CONSULTANT
Maarof an insurance broker with more than 25
years experience has worked with three differing
brokerages Anika, Jardine and Sime Darby
involved in the formulation and administration
of various insurance programs of local
conglomerates and multinationals.
He was the general manager of an American-owned
JV based out of Labuan and was instrumental in
proposing the captive concept to a Malaysian
conglomerate and indeed the conglomerate
eventually became first Malaysian based captive
operating out of Labuan.
His international foray also bore fruition when
he assisted in the formation of a Bangladeshi
captive insurer in Labuan.
Presently Maarof consults actively with some
large corporations besides providing assistance
in the area of traditional insurance advisory
and placements.
FRANKIE POON - ACCA
DIRECTOR - MARKETING
Frankie, an affiliate of the Association of
Chartered Certified Accountants’ fraternity,
started a career in the insurance industry in
the late 1980’s as a life insurance agent with
one of Malaysia’s leading insurance company, he
has, within the short span over the past years,
diversified into other fields of the insurance
industry.
As an Executive Director of a risk management
and consultancy company from 1995 to 1999, his
main role was to oversee and expand the retail
business of the company besides being in charge
of the overall operations of the company which
ranges from finance management to business
development.
He is also very much involved in alternative
risks transfer (“ART”), a departure from the
conventional insurance industry, this focus is
timely especially with the increasing
significance of the impact of the convergence of
the capital and insurance markets on the
insurance industry as a whole of late.
Capitalising on the exposures and experiences
gained over the years coupled with his training
in accountancy, Frankie, together with the other
team members, are well placed to study and
review clients’ needs and thereafter recommend
long term solutions tailored to the respective
clients.
